For anyone who enjoys tranquil beach days, Paxos and Antipaxos are two perfect Greek islands. With coastlines full of anything from wide and shallow family beaches to secluded coves, you can try out one beach a day and still have many left for the next visit. Below is our guide to the best beaches on Paxos and Antipaxos.
The beaches of Loggos
Not one beach, but various to choose from: that is what the Longgos area offers. At walking distance from this fishing village is Levrechio beach, an idyllic snorkeling beach about 50 meters wide, with a taverna right by the beach. The next beaches down the coast are Marmari and Kipos. These pebbly beaches are somewhat off the beaten track, which means they are quiet. Further to the west is Monodendri beach, which has great facilities such as sunbeds and a taverna.
The northern town of Lakka has an excellent, horseshoe-shaped harbor, which makes it popular with yachties. The harbor is safe to swim in and is in line with sea caves. Kanoni and Harami are two beaches inside this bay, with tavernas right by the water’s edge. Perfect for family days!
Be sure to take a water taxi to neighbor islet Antipaxos, which has some truly Caribbean-looking beaches. Voutoumi is one such beach, made up of white sand that gives the sea a turquoise hue unlike anywhere else on Paxos or Antipaxos. The limestone cliffs on either side are densely vegetated, making this a picture-perfect bay. Be sure to try the local wine at the tavern on the hill.
Another postcard-worthy cove made up of small shingles, Mesovrika Beach gets few visitors. Most yacht and taxi boat visitors head to the two sandy beaches on either side of Mesovrika (one of these is Voutoumi), meaning you can have this beach all to yourself.
Tree-lined limestone rocks extend on both sides of the small beach, sheltering it from the wind and waves. The panoramic views across the bay of Paxos and to the mainland are wonderful. There are no facilities on this beach, but the daytime tavernas at Voutoumi and Vrika are just a five-minute walk away each.
