Capturing Moments One Frame At A Time

Capturing Moments

Say cheese!” This one phrase is how most of us photographers have started our photography journey. The adrenaline rush being behind a camera, trying to get everyone in the frame, playing with the settings to get the lighting just right. Click! Smiles and happiness are captured in a frame for eternity. How do you know you’ve evolved as a photographer? When you shoot a wedding.

Being a wedding photographer has always been my goal and it’s the most memorable experience ever. I’m going to walk you through my process by being a wedding photographer so that you too can learn about all that happens behind the camera.

BTS Of A Wedding

I’ll tell you about the time I came into the whole wedding photography business. I started my journey off by seeing a Facebook ad, ‘Wedding photographer in Minneapolis needed’. Without thinking too much about it, I just sent in my portfolio and hoped for the best. A few days later I got a message from the couple saying they’d like to meet me. I was over the moon! Then the question, “Now what?” popped into my head.

Meeting Day

We decided to meet at a local coffee shop, and I remember I had butterflies in my stomach the whole ride there. On reaching, I spotted the couple and they had their brightest smiles on. We got to talking and I asked them questions about how they met, who proposed, and how excited they were about getting married. They liked my pitch and I loved their attitude and that’s how I landed my first job as a wedding photographer.

Pre -Shoot

On the day we met, I told them that I’d like to do a test photo shoot so that we could learn about each other’s ideas and visions. We set up a cute little date night shoot, and they went crazy over the pictures. It gave me a good understanding of what their preferred angles are, what lighting best suited their faces, and who was camera-shy (it was the groom). Pre-shoots are a great way to build a relationship with your clients and also to make them comfortable around you. Plus, they bought me chocolate cake, so it was a win-win situation.

Wedding Day

It was finally the day I was preparing for and to say I was nervous is an understatement. As soon as I entered the venue, I met with the couple and all my jitters went away. They were so calm, so relaxed and so in love. At that moment I knew, all I wanted to do was to capture their love. I took out my camera, picked up a lens, and went right to my job. From capturing subtle glances to detailed shots of the bride’s wedding dress, I just couldn’t help but smile. Everything was so beautiful and that made my job all the easier. My favorite shot was the groom’s reaction to seeing his bride. It was just beautiful.

Wedding Reception

After the magical wedding ceremony, it was time for everyone to let loose. This meant, loud music, drinks all around, and epic moments! It was a literal treat being around people who had so much love for each other. The night was full of laughs, giggles, and flashes. It was the kind of night you would want to remember for eternity and that’s just what I was there for.

After sorting and editing the pictures, I sent them to the couple. I also framed a couple of my favorite moments just as a little thank you for picking me. I will always remember the look on their faces. Their eyes were teary and they just gleamed with happiness. That feeling was truly incredible. It made me feel important and I just knew that wedding photography is what I want to do for the rest of my life!
